I looked at her sceptically. If I didn’t know better, I’d say she was comparing Demetrius Sylvester to a drug.

“Will.” Even his name was boring.

“Yes,” she said, picking up her phone as it buzzed. “He says he’ll meet you at the opening of Bacchanal, Thursday night. It’s a restaurant/club/whatever people do these days.”

“I’ve never heard of it,” I said, though I was intrigued. Something about that name pulled at my thoughts.

“Oh it’s very exclusive. I think Will is one of the backers. Anyways, it’ll be lots of fun. There’ll be great food, and limitless champagne,” she said lightly.

“Does he know which station it’d be closest to?”

She frowned at me a moment, before laughing.

“Oh, you mean like the subway?! Don’t be silly. Will’s driver is going to pick you up.”

Luckily talk shifted soon back to Sasha, happy at last to have convinced me to go out with one of her friends. My own thoughts were much more ambivalent.
